How often does one suddenly stop exercising, when reaching 30-40-50 years of age, because their calves keep “pulling”. Why? They try to correct it by dry needling, stretch, masssage, rule out compartment syndrome, and yet they can’t “get going” with alternative sports!
Perhaps the reason is when we were younger playing explosive sports like hockey, squash, cricket, sprinting, etc., we were developing micro tears which inevitably lead to blobs of scar tissue in the area.
This often is not treated correctly at the time of injury which in turn leads to guys giving up or stopping. Then, rest unfortunately cannot repair scar tissue. The analogy of chunky cottage cheese compared to smooth cream cheese is apt when trying to understand this.
