At the beginning of every year I am inundated with clients New Years resolutions and I am always so inspired by the breath of fresh air that fills my office. My goal sits alongside them by making sure those goals don’t become fads. So as I have been listening to my clients during this first few weeks back at work I thought it would be useful to share some guidelines around maintaining goals and keeping that freshness to your year.
Rule one: Always create goals that are sustainable. This is more than goals that you are actually able to achieve, this means that it’s a goal that you are easily able to attend to in your everyday life. It is no use planning on doing iron man if you haven’t considered the training and times required to achieve it.
Rule two: Make sure the goal you have set allows you to be conscious of the journey. When we are invested in the journey, daily, we start to integrate joy and happiness as well as a sense of accomplishment DAILY! We don’t need to wait until the goal is obtained to feel the achievement, there is a sense of achievement each day which allows you to connect with the ultimate set goal.
Rule three: Allow for variety. Variety gives us a sense of creativity and an ability to sustain our interests.
