There is no doubt that Donald Trump is getting all the airtime globally at any given moment. So if we look at the definition of trauma ‘ a deeply disturbing or distressing experience’ – I think we can all agree for those who did watch the inauguration, the above definition is fitting.

Having a man like this run the free world, is very alarming and it is evident by how many protests are still being carried out in the United States alone. But he is in power, we need to stop dreaming of impeachment and start focusing on what this means for us and how we can move on. Change naturally evokes a stress reaction, now this situation is change on steroids! Donald Trump has managed to single handedly make the majority of the United States of America feel out of control and this is contagious, it leaves us all wondering how far can this ripple effect run….

So how do we move on? How do we move through this world with the madness that has ensued? I like to look at development. How are we developing with the things going on around us. This calls for us to dig deep, perhaps pull on our resources. Resources are the elements in our lives which can be used to streamline difficulties. When one is resourceful, we access coping mechanisms, perhaps find people to talk to to assist us in moving forward. But I would like to encourage another version, that being resourcefulness.

Resourcefulness refers to the emotional state we find ourselves in. When we engage here we are welcoming the shaping of our own destiny, when we choose to feel, we start to access our own beliefs. Allowing our emotional state to be at the forefront encourages us to connect. Connection is one of the most important aspects of life. As Brene Brown states time and times again, ‘we are built for connection and a sense of belonging’. Accessing internal resourcefulness is the kind of connection that highlights ones own drive and sense of motivation. Understanding what drives you pushes you to move in a direction that is clearer, free from negative attachment.
