Hi Guys,
Well to end off the year… what better way than to discuss how to maintain stretching and prevention of back and neck issues through the holidays.
Firstly to all patients who have individual core mechanics and bio programs, just because you might be away from work and your normal routine, does not change your spinal issues. Perhaps try to do the program every two days if easier for you, but be sure to continue it through your holiday break.
In terms of travel which mainly is via flights, cars, and trains, prevent lymph build up with swollen ankles by utilizing compression stockings, which are ideal (especially the more modern ones, which are fantastic)! Glut and hamstring areas are tricky if you are traveling in a car but when you take breaks, its so important to get out and walk around and stretch core and glut areas. If you not sure which stretches to do for this, pop past the practice this week and someone will be available to show you how to do them.
Neck areas are often overloaded in cars and flights. Keep the neck mobile and lose but don’t over stretch. What is also very common during traveling is back issues as a result of sleeping on different beds as apposed to our normal beds at home. Be aware of this, and if you find the bed is too soft, perhaps try firm it up with some towels or try turning the mattress over.
Swimming and walking is often more frequent when we away on holiday which is great! I personally am not a fan of taking training regimens away with you (i.e. triathlete and runners continue to train). Surely a holiday means the body needs some time out! I agree a light run here and there, but rather hit January fresh and focused injury free!
Let the tunes flow! Don’t get tennis elbow applying sun tan lotion, and give your soul a holiday! Much love and be safe, Wayne!
