Chiropractic and a Chiropractor

“Chiropractic is a philosophy, science and art of things natural; a system of adjusting the segments of the spinal column by hand only, for the correction of the cause of disease.”

    – Dr David Palmer (the founder of Chiropractic)

    WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC?

The term Chiropractic means ‘done by hand’.

Chiropractic’s emphasis is manual therapy including joint adjustment and manipulation with particular focus on joint dysfunction.

Chiropractic offers a complimentary and alternative approach to diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disorders, of the neuromusculoskeletal system and the effects of these disorders on general health.

Chiropractic works on the premise that good health is partially dependent on a normally functioning spine and nervous system.

The true differentiation of Chiropractic practitioners from any other healthcare professionals is the fact that Chiropractor’s are the only health professionals trained in the detection, location, and correction of the vertebral subluxation complex through Chiropractic care.

    HOW CHIROPRACTICS WORKS

A Chiropractor’s main focus is the spine and nervous system, and whether both are functioning optimally. Making up the spine are 24 individual moveable vertebrae, starting just below the base of your skull and ending in the center between the hips. Although each vertebra is separate, they are all connected together by ligaments and muscles, which enable the entire spine to function as one dynamic moveable unit.

The Chiropractor will evaluate the biomechanical structure of the spine to ensure that each of the individual vertebra are moving freely and are not displaced or fixed in anyway.

It is the Chiroporactor’s role to assess and identify any problem that might exist within the spine and to correct any dysfunction that might be present.

Regular chiropractic adjustments at the joint can restore and maintain balance within your body, leaving you better prepared to live life to its fullest and even aid in allowing the body to self-heal.

    WHO IS CHIROPRACTICS SUITABLE FOR?

Chiropractic care is not just for those patients who have been involved in an accident or suffer from chronic neck or back pain but instead, it is for anyone from busy parents, to children, to pregnant moms and athletes.

Injuries are less likely to be serious and can heal at a significantly faster rate in those who receive regular chiropractic care, especially when combined with other healthy activities such as regular exercise and eating a nutritious diet.

    Babies and Children:
Babies get great relief from alignment following Caeser births. Alignment has shown improvement with upper respiratory tract infections, ear infections and general sinus conditions. Children may suffer with spinal conditions as they grow older and their spinal column adapts.

    Pregnant Women:
Backache can be minimized throughout pregnancy with the help of a chiropractor. Additionally delivery can be made easier.

    Office Workers:
Sitting in front of a computer for extended periods of time can have effects on posture, resulting in back and/or neck problems.

    Factory Workers:
Repetitive activity, which is often the case with people in routine factory jobs, can often have negative effects on the body.

    The Elderly:
After many years of longevity, the body undergoes much wear and tear, and will more prone to spinal issues.

    Athletes:
Pushing your body to its limits, which is the case with top athletes who are constantly trying to improve performance, can often result in severe stress on the body, which sometimes only shows in later years in the form of neuromusculoskeletal problems. Chirporactics can help to prevent this.
